Yes, there are still passes available for the research vessel Investigator, berthed at the CSIRO Wharf, accessible from Castray Esplanade. You will have a fascinating self-guided tour of the ship and meet the scientists who work on it. This purpose-built floating science lab allows researchers to explore the deep ocean and the creatures that live in it. Along with your ship tour, you’ll be able to enjoy an Open Day at the CSIRO Marine Laboratories on the wharf, where the latest technology, heritage collections and cutting edge research are on display. There’s a $5 donation for the ship tours to support the Mawson’s Huts Foundation’s work to preserve our Antarctic heritage in Commonwealth Bay. Open Days are entirely free to the public.
